Treatment failure
Suspect treatment failure if all of the following clinical conditions are met:
- On ART for 12 month or more
- Currently good adherence (but may have had poor adherence in the past)
- New WHO clinical stage 3 or 4 condition
Investigations
Do CD4 and VL
- must have VL to confirm failure
- If VL 1,000 copies/ml: continue to support intensive adherence
- If VL ≥1,000 copies/ml: Treatment failure confirmed, refer to ART provider for management.
