Antibiotics should be given as an EMERGENCY. Treatment should not be delayed for LP results. If feasible, do LP before starting antibiotics, but if LP is not possible right away, start antibiotics empirically and consider doing LP later. Pre-LP antibiotics will reduce the chances for bacterial growth but will not immidiately influence white blood cells count (WBC) count and chemistry.
